They continue to produce exceptional ram lambs that exemplify the Polled Dorset breed characteristics.
In the sheep industry we have all heard the saying…”the Ram is 50% of the flock”. However, having been raised on a purebred Holstein dairy farm, Shirley knew that building on female families was equally as important.
Through their attention to building on ewe families and careful sire selection, the Graves family have been rewarded with wonderful flock uniformity. This approach has deeply entrenched the ‘True Type’ Polled Dorset breed characteristics including out-of-season breeding, good mothering instincts, thick/long-bodied sheep with proven ability to lamb 3 times in 2 years with the correct management.
Through many triumphs and tragedies, Century Lane Farm has endured and prospered.
It rose from the ashes of a devastating fire to continue to be one of the top breeding operations in Canada for Polled Dorset Sheep.
Shirley and Rob met in 1979 and have built Century Lane Farm to being recognized as top breeders of Polled Dorset Sheep. Their resilience and passion for raising their family and their sheep has lead them on a dramatic and fulfilling life journey.
